MINUTES OF THE TUNKHANNOCK TOWNSHIP BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING HELD JULY 11, 2005

The Tunkhannock Township Board of Supervisors held their regular monthly meeting on July 11, 2005. Those in attendance were Supervisors Francis Altemose, II, Jim Sterrett and William Bourke, Secretary/Treasurer Donna Verdes, Solicitor Ed Scacchitti and area residents. Chairman Altemose, II called the meeting to order at 7:30 PM.

The following minutes were presented: June 15, 2005 regular meeting and the June 30, 2005 work session. Motion by Chairman Altemose, II to approve the minutes as written. Motion seconded by Supervisor Sterrett. There being no comments. Motion passed unanimously.

Treasurer's Report: Treasurer Donna Verdes presented the Treasurer’s report

General - Receipts $147,318.26

Disbursements $139,157.91

General Balance $614,157.91

Liquid Fuels - Liquid Fuels Balance $555,900.80

Motion by Supervisor Bourke to accept the treasurer’s report. Seconded by Supervisor Sterrett. There being no comments, motion passed unanimously.

Bills in the amount of $251,034.39 were presented. Motion by Chairman Altemose, II to approve the bill list. Seconded by Supervisor Bourke. After comments and questions, motion passed unanimously.

Announcements – Supervisor Bourke announced the following:

- Clymer Library Book Mobile (July 22 & August 5, 1-2 pm)

Supervisor Sterrett read the meeting schedule.

Old Business: Tunk Fest – Supervisor Bourke stated it was a success and thanked all the volunteers and donators.

New Business: Governor's Center for Local Government Services - Supervisor Bourke explained that it's a service that is provided for free which gives peer to peer help. They would like them to review and suggest ways to improve general office administration and accounting records. Motion by Supervisor Bourke to approve the Letter of Intent. Seconded by Chairman Altemose, II. After comments, motion carried unanimously.

Reports: Chairman Altemose, II stated the EAC is actively pursuing properties to acquire to use for open space. Joint Open Space and COG minutes will be posted next month. EMA there was no meeting.

Supervisor Sterrett stated that the EMS minutes were posted.

Bill Chatam in regard to the Clymer Library stated there was a discussion about extending bookmobile service to other end of Township possibly Willie's corner on Route 115 or the IML turnaround. Regional Comprehensive Use Plan - Supervisor Bourke stated

Joint Building Codes - Supervisor Bourke stated that nothing significant to report.

Pocono Mountain Police Board - Supervisor Bourke stated

Monroe County Task Force - Bruce Walder stated the meeting was uneventful and that Penn Dot has cancelled several projects due to lack of funding.

Township Planning Commission - minutes are posted.?

Public Comments: Betty Terrell-Cruz – announced that Seniors 65 and over can file paper work with the Monroe County Transit Authority that would enable them to ride the bus for free. Other comments included the Access Card issue and the August 13 Forum on Taxes to be held at the Township Building 1-5 p.m.

Marie Rivera - commented on the beautiful paving job on Hellers Lane. She wanted to know if the Township paved Tunk Trails. She was informed the association paid for it themselves.

Marge Nowinski – commented on number of employees that worked on the Stoney Hollow Road repair project.

Errol Bailey – Commented on Stoney Hollow, Grant, Bucket Truck and tree branches. In regard to the purchase of the bucket truck the Roadmaster stated the estimates received to job out the clean up of the ice storm were between $87,000 - $97,000 and you didn't own anything. It was more cost effective to purchase the bucket truck for $22,000 and have our road crew do the clean up. It saved the Township approximately $68,000 doing it this way.

Dick VanNoy - commented on School Board article in newspaper and Penn Dot fixing the grate on Route 903.

Mike Gillen - Thanked Bruce Walder for overseeing the paving done and Mountain Road and that he appreciated it.

Bruce Walder - In regard to a question about Stoney Hollow road sinking at the culvert repair.

There being no further public comments, Supervisor Bourke made motion to adjourn the meeting. Seconded by Supervisor Sterrett. Motion passed unanimously. The meeting adjourned at 8:04 p.m.
